What we hold, who else sees it, and how to get it back or have it deleted. There is no advertising on Page a Day and we do not sell data to anyone.
Page a Day operates apageaday.co and is the data controller for the information described here. For anything on this page, write to support@apageaday.co.
Your account. Signing in is handled by Clerk, and your login credentials and the email address on your account live with them. Your reader profile here holds a reference to that Clerk account, your reader name (generated for you unless you change it), your reader number, your email preferences, and the date you joined — not your email address.
Email addresses we do store. Separately from your profile, an email address is saved where one was typed in rather than signed in with: an invitation someone sent you to a club, a Page Key issued to a specific address, a mailing-list signup on an author's campaign page, a publisher's enquiry about pricing, and our own sales records. Those are kept as records of the thing that happened.
What you write. Your margin notes, replies, reactions, poll answers, saved notes, the display name you use inside each club, and any requests you make for a club to be started around a book.
How you read. Which chapters or readings you have opened and finished, where you bookmarked, how far you have reached in a series, and when you last visited a club. This is what makes spoiler protection work — it is the mechanism by which we avoid showing you a note from someone further ahead.
Your access. Which books you have unlocked with a Page Key, and which clubs you belong to.
Notifications. If you turn on push notifications, we store the subscription your browser gives us so we can send them. Turning them off removes it.
If you sell on Page a Day. Authors and publishers additionally have a Stripe customer reference, their imprint and author profiles, their catalogue, and any enquiry they send us about pricing.
These companies process data on our behalf so the product can work:
Other members of a club see what you post there and the display name you chose for that club. Authors and publishers see reading activity for their own titles and the notes written in their own clubs.
If you redeem a Page Key, that book's author or publisher can see the email address on your account, and can export it along with the date you unlocked the book. A Page Key is issued by them, and redeeming it is how they know who their readers are.
If you sign up on an author's or publisher's campaign page to be sent a Page Key, they can see the email address you entered there.
If you ask a book's page to email you a Page Key, the address you type is attached to that key, and the people who can see reader emails for that book can see it.
At a publisher, the account owner decides which of their team, and whether the book's author, can see these addresses.
Joining an open club does none of these. Otherwise, an author or publisher does not get your email address from us.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising.
Only the ones that make the site work. There are no advertising or analytics cookies.
For as long as your account is open. Close it and we delete your profile, reading progress, saved notes, reactions, memberships, unlocked books and push subscriptions immediately.
Notes and replies you wrote stay in their conversations with your name removed. Other readers replied to those, and their words are not ours to delete on request. If you want something you wrote taken down entirely, delete it before closing your account, or ask us.
Payment records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires us to keep them.
If you are in the UK or EU you have the right to access, correct, export, delete, restrict and object to our use of your data, and to complain to your data protection authority. We extend the same to everyone regardless of where they live.
Two of these you can do yourself, right now, without asking anyone: from your account page you can download everything we hold about you as a file, and close your account permanently. For anything else, email support@apageaday.co and we will respond within 30 days.
The services above operate internationally, and your data may be stored or processed outside the UK and EU. Where that happens it is covered by the standard contractual clauses those providers offer. If you need to know the specific region a particular service holds your data in, ask us and we will tell you.
Page a Day is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has an account here, tell us and we will remove it.
If we change how we use your data in a way that matters, we will tell you by email or on the site before it takes effect.
